Founded in 1982, the Tamworth Clarinet Choir has been bringing the rich, harmonious sound of clarinet music to audiences for over four decades. Based in Tamworth, NSW Australia, the choir continues to perform regularly, welcoming musicians of all ages and skill levels.
The choir's origins trace back to 1974 when its founder, Mr. Bill Forrest, attended an international Clarinet Symposium in Sydney. There, he was inspired by a clarinet choir formed by renowned American teacher Mitchell Lurie. Moved by the beauty of the ensemble’s sound, Bill set out to establish a permanent clarinet choir in Australia—one that was independent of schools or universities, ensuring that musicians from all walks of life could participate and share their love of music.
